Slaty Fork is the last 5 miles of completely wild trout water left on Elk River ! The last trout stocked here were 1500 brown trout fingerlings back in 2004 . Every fish in this section is 100% stream born and bred . It is home to a sizable wild trout population both in terms of numbers and fish sizes . It has all 3 species , rainbows , browns and brookies . This is the best wild trout stream in the northern 1/2 of Wv ! Like the rest of the Lady this is a very fertile alkaline environment and boasts the prolific hatches you would expect on limestone water ! This section is legendary for it's ability to challenge even the most seasoned anglers but fishing here regularly WILL make you a better angler . It's a 5 mile, Catch & Release section, flowing through remote country with a trailhead at either end . This is the real deal !!
